first leg was a short flight via chicago..

a series of problems with the flaps on this wing led to us going back to chicago for an emergency landing

but i got there in the end, and headed for the quiet countryside that is home in nz

north carolina

i'm a bit out of date here, i took this trip about 2 1/2 weeks ago.. north carolina is the state that borders the southern end of virginia, and is "confederate territory" from back in civil war times.

and it's a very affluent state.

didn't see any.. thank christ.

we went out to "the beach" as it is known in north carolina and found kitty hawk, now a town known as "Kill Devil Hills". the strip heading away behind forries head is the site where orville and wilbur wright made the alleged first powered flight.

jamestown is in southern virginia (virginia by the way was the name given to the first born english settler). Its the site of the first english settlement. Theres not a whole lot to see as the remains are buried, but they have placed mock up remains above where the originals are, and there is a serenity much like at waitangi in nz.

this is the isthmus leading to jamestown
